As mentioned in our mission statement, the Foundation’s ultimate goal is to construct its own golf learning center. Land has been set aside at Veteran’s Park for the construction of the learning center and Pete Dye and John Owens have agreed to design the routing and layout. A capital campaign will be launched soon to help this dream become a reality!
Presently — Lakeside Golf Course and the Division of Parks and Recreation of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and their belief in our foundation — youth golf instruction will continue this upcoming Fall and Spring. In accordance with a memorandum of understanding, between the above mentioned entities and the Larry Gilbert Foundation, young boys and girls who are currently involved in the after-school program of Parks and Recreation will have the opportunity to be transported to Lakeside Golf Course in the afternoon for beginning instruction.
Besides teaching the physical skills of the game, instruction will also be given on how the sport can build integrity, honesty and sportsmanship, while learning etiquette, values, and how to preserve life’s long range lessons.
